Music and technology. Two vastly different concepts appropriately brought together in a single, splendid recording by musical pioneer GIORGIO MORODER. E=MC2, his latest Casablanca lp, is a landmark for pop music, not only is it his first lp since this year`s Oscar-winning soundtrack for "Midnight Express," E=MC2 is also the first electronic 'live-to-digital' album ever made.

Hailed as an innovator for his pioneering use of the synthesizer, Giorgio once again brings the future a few steps closer. "It`s the first recording of this kind," he enthused. "It`s music programmed as bursts of energy, coded numerically to micro-computers and recorded via the digital process. Then we edited by computer and the energy was once again reproduced as music - but with an immense reduction in noise and distortion. It`s very close to `pure sound.!"

More than that, E=MC2 is a revolutionary human/computer collaboration, a performance that involves 25 computerized synthesizers, 4 computerized keyboards, 3 micro-computers, plus electronic percussion, drums and vocals. Ultimately, digital technology and human creativity merge in live concert. And the music - on every selection - speaks for itself.

But then, Giorgio`s achievements have always made a statement. His ground-breaking work with E=MC2 parallels his ultra-successful Euro-disco sound - a style that Giorgio introduced and shaped almost single-handedly, setting a trend almost overnight with a then-unknown singer named Donna Summer. Since then, their association has netted both artits international acclaim as well as a raft of gold and platinum awards.

Giorgio commenced his music career initially as a bass-player, touring Europe and surrounding points for several years before settling down in Munich, Germany. He quickly became involved with sound engineering.

"At that time," explains Gioegio, "I was very much attracted to current technology and its applications to music - and i still am. Every spare moment I had was occupied with all the sounds a modern sound studio could produce. Ehen the first Moog (synthesizer) came into the market, i knew I had to have it. The creative possibilities ware endless."

His fixation with the creative and technical aspects of recorded music eventually let Moroder into composing, singing, and producing. International hits like "Looky, Looky," "Underdog" and "Son of my father" - all million - sellers - highlight Giorgio`s career as a solo artist.
And today, through his work with Donna Summer, "Midnight Express," Munich Machine, The Sylvers, Sparks and The Three Degrees Giorgio Moroder enjoys a reputation as one of pop music`s most prolific and successful producers. Not just technically speaking, its a reputation he`s earned - and a reputation he deserves.
